Armed Conflicts

Armed conflict is a destructive phenomenon that has been a part of human history for centuries. It occurs when two or more groups engage in organized and violent confrontation, using weapons and other means to achieve their objectives. Armed conflicts can arise due to a variety of reasons, such as political, economic, religious, and territorial disputes. They can also occur between states, within states, or between non-state actors.

       Many complex factor lead to armed conflicts within states: Mass violations of human and minority rights and Bad economic conditions seem to be a main cause for internal conflicts. Degradation of renewable resources may contribute to the possibility of armed conflict. Some state want their dominance on other state and some state for their own defence are some reason of armed conflict.

    In armed conflicts Societies have paid a massive loss of human life and economic, political and social disintegration. More than four million people are estimated to have been killed in violent conflicts since the fall the Berlin wall. Women and children, in particular, suffer in armed conflicts. In the result of conflicts millions of children suffer from starvation and disease. Millions of children have separated from their families due to armed conflicts. In1994, the war in Rwanda left 100,000 children without families. 20 percent of children in Angola were separated from families and relatives in 1995.

Types of armed conflict:

 

  • State Based Armed Conflict- When the armed conflict occurs between two states. This is further categories in three parts: -

   (i)Intra state armed conflict- when the armed        conflict occurs between government of a state and internal opposition groups. It is further categories in three parts:

        (a)Civil war- conflict for the control of Existing Government. The first Libyan civil war was happened in 2011 between forces of Muammar Gaddafi and rebel group that are seeking to oust his government. Libya is North African country where many civil war happened.

    (ii)Interstate armed conflict: Such conflict which occur between two or more then two state on international level. Russia and Ukraine war is interstate armed conflict. This conflict began on 22february 2022 and ongoing. For own safety Russia started this war if this war would not start by Russia then Ukraine would be member of NATO and that is not good for Russia.

(iii)Extra state armed conflict: Conflict between a state and a non-state group outside.

  • Non-State armed conflict: - The parties are not recognized government.

There are various efforts to prevent and resolve armed conflicts, including diplomatic, legal, and military approaches. Diplomatic efforts include mediation, negotiation, and dialogue between parties to resolve conflicts peacefully. Legal approaches include international humanitarian and human rights law, which seek to protect civilians and limit the scope and intensity of armed conflicts.

        (b)State formation/secessionist: conflict of government and such opposition party which wants to redraw the border of existing state

        (c)Internationalized intra state: conflict between government of state and internal opposition groups but intervention of other states. When the conflict happened in the Democratic Republic of Congo when the forces from Angola, Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Uganda comes in support of various groups in the Democratic Republic Congo in 1998. This is appropriate example of internationalized intra state armed conflict
