-By HRISHEEK SINGH

RACISM IN THE UNITED STATES

Racism in the united states comprises of negative attitudes and views based on the ethnic identity or race of a particular person or a group of people in general. Racism has often been reflected in american society by discriminatory laws, practice and at times violence . This not only impacts the life of black americans but also has an adverse effect on their human rights. The structural racism and racial subjucation prevents many black people and other ethnic minority groups from advancing which directly effects their human rights . This has been going on from a very long time in the united states which needs to be stopped.

ATLANTIC  SLAVE   TRADE

Before understanding the present scenario of racism, we first have to look at history how Racism came to existence. For this we have to look at the Atlantic slave trade.  The Atlantic Slave trade involved the transportation by Slave traders of enslaved African people, mainly to the Americas. The vast majority of those who were transported in the transatlantic slave trade were tribal people from central and west Africa.

Many people were directly captured by the slave traders in the coastal raids. The transatlantic slave trade resulted in a vast and unknown loss of life of African people. The slave trade is one of the biggest blots on mankind.

Human Rights and Racism

Both the concepts of racism and human rights are interlinked as when a person faces racism because of his race or ethnic or linguistic identity his or her basic human rights are automatically violated, and this must be taken note of. Generally, the United Nations advocates reparations as part of the remedy for any series human rights abuse. For example, under traditional human rights law and policy the United Nations expects governments that practice or tolerate racial discrimination to acknowledge it and end the practice and pay for it and compensate the victims of racism but when the country which practices racism does not take it seriously and continue the practice then some serious action can also be taken against the respective country.

For example: - when south Africa did not end its policy of racism then as a response to its apartheid policies, the international community adopted economic sanctions as pressure tactics and wider condemnation. On 6 November 1962, the United Nations general assembly passed resolution 1761, a non-binding resolution condemning south Africa apartheid policies, establishing the United Nations special committee against apartheid and calling for imposing economic and other sanctions on South Africa. On 7 august 1963 the United Nations security council passed resolution 181 calling for
